This silk scarf features the scene ‘Kay Kavus Ascends to the Sky’. The image is borrowed from a folio of the Shahnameh of Shah Tahmasp which is currently held in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. © MMA 1970.301.21 In this episode Kay Kavus is approached by a div disguised as a handsome youth. The div tells Kay Kavus that his kingly glory was so splendid that he should reign from the heavens. The king, seduced by this idea, ordered his servants to build a golden throne. He then tied four hungry eagles to the throne in order to lift it into the air. When the eagles tired, disaster struck and the throne and king plummeted back to earth. Maison Nazanin was founded by Iranian-born designer Nazanin and London-born economist Adam in 2024. Their collections of silk scarves are inspired by Persian painting, drawing and poetry and also feature Nazanin’s own designs. This scarf is taken from the collection ‘Inspired by Persian Painting’.
